This video by Tara Speer Blank shows grunion eggs that have been agitated in seawater to trigger hatching. Within one minute, the action starts. Taken through a dissecting microscope, this video shows two eggs hatching in real time, and a third example slowed down to show the movements of the embryo as it weakens the egg envelope and then breaks free, tail first, to become a free-swimming larva.
